Who's your favorite literary crush?

In the spirit of the great LOVE holiday coming up, I've been asked to do a Valentine's Day guest post. I have decided to make it a post of our favorite literary crushes, so I'll need your help for this one. So here's my question:

Who is your favorite literary crush (or crushes), and why?

Don't forget the classics, either. Mr. Darcy might not be as hip and cool as Edward Cullen (or as sparkly), but he's certainly smoldering all on his own.

ETA: Went and changed the picture. Apparently, Colin Firth is the REAL Mr. Darcy, lol!

  1. My Literay Crush Is A Toss Up between Mr. Darcy But I Always Picture Him As Portayed By Colin Firth And Edward Cullen Portrayed By Robert Pattinson. Mr. Darcy Was My Favorite Since I Was A Teenager But Now Edward Is Giving Him A Run For His Money.

  2. Love, love, love Mr. Darcy. It really is that whole 'aloof' thing. Can't forget Mr. Rochester. Another classic who is not often remembered is John Ridd from Lorna Doone. (Or am I the only one on that?)

  3. That is one of the hardest things to choose! There are so many gorgeous, smart and sexy heroes....I can't think of just one! I love Tailchaser from Tad Williams Tailchasers Song, a kitty!

  4. That's a tough decision. I agree Mr. Darcy is great but don't forget Knightley.

  5. I like the characters that are willing to do anything to save those that they care about. I like the broading type. I like my sparkly, protective vamp Edward, the broading, protective vamp. Stefan. I like Dimitri from Vampire Academy for being strong.

  6. Oh I totally agree, I love this Mr. Darcy. Of the Jane A men, I would go with Mr. Darcy or Mr. Knightly.

  7. Mr. Darcy is a given (Colin Firth of course). I fell in love with Jamie Fraser from the Outlander series and Richard Armitage's portrayal of John Thornton from North and South. I love them because they are strong, sexy, and love equally smart and strong women.

  8. I love Mr.Darcy although I am not a big fan of Colin Firth I like the 2005 version of the story.

  9. Jamie Fraser from the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. He is incredibly sweet, noble, and a one-woman man. <3

  11. Um, yes. Times 100. Did you originally have a pic of Matthew McFadyen up?! He's cute, but he ain't no Colin Firth...!

And I saw someone up there mentioned Knightley. Knightley! Especially portrayed by Jeremy Northrop alongside Gwyneth Paltrow. *swoon* I'm actually quite a big fan of that guy in Becoming Jane, who plays opposite Anne Hathaway's Jane Austen, as well. (Though I still can't see Hathaway as Austen... blergh.)

Also, you can't forget Gilbert Blythe. :)

  12. Eric Northman from 'The Southern Vampire Mysteries' better known as the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris it helps that he's portrayed by the ever sex-tastic Alexander Skarsgard in the t.v series on HBO. As for why - I guess it's because he's so cunning but he can also be very sweet too.

  13. I do love Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. (Matthew MacFadyen was great, too.)

I agree with Steph Su about Gilbert. <3

I really like Peeta from The Hunger Games Trilogy. He bakes and he kicks serious butt! He's just such a good guy. I LOVE him! And he might be my favorite. It's tough though, there are so many amazing crush worthy characters our there.

  14. Mr. Darcy and the Weasley twins! Oh and Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility.

  15. Jace from Cassandra Clare's mortal instrument series, he makes me swoon! He's very sarcastic about stuff which I find very attractive, and he may be a jerk but he is super protective of those he loves! Love him!!! :) *and i wish he really existed*

  16. John Thornton from North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell is my absolutely favorite, followed by Darcy. :)

  17. Ah! Melanie beat me to it.

There are a lot of crushworthy guys in literature but my absolute favorite would have to be Mr. John Thornton from North & South. That man is just wonderful... *sighs* Not that Mr. Darcy ISN'T awesome himself but when I found Mr. Thornton, Darcy got blown out of the water! And Marcus freakin' Flutie from The Jessica Darling series-I would love to meet a guy like him in real life. *swoon!*

  20. My literary crush is Valek , from Study Series by Maria V Snyder. The guy is intelligence , resourcefulness and self confidence personified. He doesn't even have to try to be romantic. He is one. Naturally.

  21. Right now I lust the most for Nathanial from the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series... long auburn hair, ribbed body, submissive nature.

  22. It has to be Mr. Darcy. It just simply has to. :)

  23. My list of literary crushes could seriously fill a book! I agree with so many of the swoon-worthy gentlemen already mentioned: Mr. Darcy, Gilbert Blythe, Mr. Thornton, Jace, and Peeta! A few more to add to that list include George Cooper from Tamora Pierce's Tortall books, Po from Kristin Cashore's Graceling, and Theodore "Laurie" Laurence from Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. :)

  24. Mine is Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables-he's just so sweet and charming and funny! And he gives up the school so Anne can be closer to home-and he waits so long for her to come to her senses!

Newer crushes are Peeta from the Hunger Games, Po from Graceling and Nate from Eyes Like Stars.

  25. Most definitely Mr. Darcy (with Matthew McFadden's face) and Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre! Oh, and maybe Roiben from Holly Black's Tithe and Ironside books.

    Swoooooon! ;)

  26. Ok Julie I'm back! I know I said Jace and he is my number one literary crush but wow I just realized I have so many more. Ok let's see.

It's been mentioned numerous times, but Mr. Darcy and I prefer MacFayden's version, and that's only because I am in love with that DVD, and I actually haven't even seen the mini series with Firth, I know shame on me. The following ones are mostly newish.
There's Adrian from The Vampire Academy series(richelle mead), Daniel from The Dark Divine(bree despain), Shane from the Morganville Vampires series (rachel caine) and yea I think i'll stick with those. Hope that helps! :)

  27. So many crushes, so little time! Mr. Darcy has been a crush since my teens. Also love Roarke from the JD Robb books, and Valek from the Maria Snyder books, and Jaime from Outlander, and Puck from The Iron King, and Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series. Um...How many do I get? *L*

  28. So many to choose from! I'd say Mr Darcy for sure when it comes to the classics. Recent ones would include Jace from the Immortal Instruments, Patch from Hush Hush, Po from Graceling, Eric from Sookie Stackhouse, Nicholas from Hearts at Stake, Tens from Meridan (even if it is a stupid name). I'm sure I could go on but those are the ones that jump to mind. Thanks for the fun post that made me smile at the thought of all those hotties!

  31. Puck has been my literary crush since I was fourteen and played the part of "fairy" in Midsummer.

  32. I know this is a bit of an older post, but it caught my eye... And might I say that several men of mystery have caught my eye through my trips into the worlds and words of books- both fantastical and otherwise... One of the many literary men that have captivated me- and though it has been quite some time since I have read the books in which he plays a rather important role- is Arkarian from Marianne Curley's trilogy the Guardians of Time. Another man of mystery who I've crushed on comes from Libba Bray's amazing novels is Kartik of the Gemma Doyle Trilogy. Though there are many others- both Puck and Ash included... These two are the most captivating, but perhaps with a bit more reading either Puck or Ash shall take hold of my heart xD
